Honeyguide Ranger Camp located in the Entabeni Safari Conservancy, rightfully dubbed “The Place of the Mountain”, is situated in the World Heritage Waterberg Biosphere. Approximately a three-hour drive north of Johannesburg, this 22 000-hectare malaria-free reserve boasts five eco-systems.
Ranger Camp offers a unique blend a luxury tented safari camp and African wilderness, perfectly set in different immaculate locations of the reserve. Our camp is child friendly with kids’ activities including full game drives (over 6 years old) and junior bush walks.
Offering unprecedented intimacy, Honeyguide Ranger Camp’s guests have exclusive access to the vast area’s abundant animal paths, hidden valleys, riverbeds, and towering peaks. The camp offers breath-taking wildlife experiences, including the Big 5, rewarding bird watching, superb cuisine and service excellence.
Honeyguide Ranger Camp, consists of 13 newly-renovated luxury tents built in canvas on wooden decks.
The tents are elevated above the ground and have private bathrooms and showers in the open air. The furnishing is quite classic and consists of a double bed or two single beds (two of the tents are suites / family rooms), chair, desk and closet.
The food is a highlight and it’s a communal affair, usually served outdoors at a long table, with log fires and torches to create a really authentic bush feel. Simple homemade dishes, using predominantly local produce, are plentiful and exquisitely presented.

The Waterberg offers a mosaic of exceptional scenic landscapes, a fascinating cultural heritage, an abundance of wildlife species and many nature-based tourism opportunities. Vaalwater is the central village of the Waterberg area, the heart of the Bushveld region. The Waterberg is more than three million years old and is often described as South Africa’s best keep secret. Its rugged beauty, incredible vistas and diversity in plant and animal life has led to the development of several exciting eco-tourism projects such as the biosphere reserve known as the Waterberg Nature Conservancy.
The Waterberg range incorporates many rivers, streams and swamps, and stretches for 150 kilometres in a long arc from Thabazimbi in the West, Nylstroom in the centre to Potgietersrus in the east. Apart from the spectacular scenery of the Waterberg Mountain Range itself, there are many game sanctuaries, nature reserves and farms. The 75 mammal species inhabiting the area include big game such as elephant, lion, white and black rhino, hippo, leopard and buffalo. The African python and the Nile crocodile are also resident, and the area is a birdwatcher’s paradise with more than 300 bird species to see. The beauty of this unique wilderness is only enhanced by its characteristic bluish hue. The multiple hot spring resorts dotted across the area provide a soothing remedy for aching muscles and tired minds. The Waterberg region is a true South African gem.
Please note, the Entabeni Game Reserve is currently running a disease-free Buffalo Project housing the Buffalo of Entabeni in a separate enclosure with the reserve. You may come face to face with some of Africa’s most unpredictable, dangerous yet majestic animals. Watch them feed from the safety of a game viewing vehicle while you learn all about why the buffalo has earned its place as one of the famous Big 5 and what this special project entails.
The Entabeni Game Reserve boasts a legendary 18 signature golf course, as well as the highest and longest Par 3 in the world – the Extreme 19th.
