In the Xitsonga language, the word “Makumu” refers to an intangible explanation of an open space, an uncluttered lookout over distant horizons, or endless views. The ‘Big Five’ Klaserie Private Nature Reserve is one of the largest privately owned nature reserves in South Africa, covering some 60 000 hectares and forming part of the greater Kruger National Park. Makumu Private Game Lodge is an intimate oasis in this vast wilderness, surrounded by the harshness, unpredictability and unspoiled appeal of the African bushveld. Six luxurious and beautifully appointed suites all fitted with aircons, accommodating a maximum of twelve guests, ensure an exclusive blend of absolute comfort, style and privacy.

ROOM TYPES:

Bushman King Suite – This bushman themed suite has a balcony, seating area and private bathroom with a bath. The beds are draped with a mosquito net and cannot be converted into twin beds  The Bushmans King Suite is lit only by candlelight and there is no electricity but has plug points. This room is larger in size and has a bath and shower with hammock.

Bushman Impi Suite – This bushman themed suite has a balcony, seating area and private bathroom with a bath. The beds are draped with a mosquito net and can be converted into twin beds. This room is lit only by candlelight and there is no electricity but has plug points. This room is smaller than the king suite and only has a shower.

Ndebele King Suite – This Ndebele themed suite has a balcony, seating area and private bathroom with a bath. The beds are draped with a mosquito net and cannot be converted into twin beds. This room is lit only by candlelight and there is no electricity but has plug points. This room is larger in size and has a bath and shower with hammock.

Ndebele Impi Suite – This Ndebele themed suite has a balcony, seating area and private bathroom with a bath. The beds are draped with a mosquito net and can be converted into twin beds. This room is lit only by candlelight and there is no electricity but has plug points. This room is smaller than the king suite and only has a shower.

Zulu King Suite – This Zulu themed suite has a balcony, seating area and private bathroom with a bath. The beds are draped with a mosquito net and cannot be converted into twin beds. This room is lit only by candlelight and there is no electricity but has plug points. This room is larger in size and has a bath and shower with hammock.

Zulu Impi Suite – This Zulu themed suite has a balcony, seating area and private bathroom with a bath. The beds are draped with a mosquito net and can be converted into twin beds. This room is lit only by candlelight and there is no electricity but has plug points. This room is smaller than the king suite and only has a shower.
