Description

Mafunyane is a small intimate lodge that allows you to indulge in a rich and luxurious African safari experience. We are situated in the Klaserie Private Nature Reserve which forms part of the Greater Kruger National Park. Here, over 200 different species of mammals including the Big 5 – elephant, lion, leopard, African buffalo, and rhinoceros – as well as 260 bird species, thrive in their natural habitat. Visitors get the opportunity to observe these magnificent creatures in the wild with two-daily guided game drives which are conducted in the early morning and late afternoon or for those wanting to get a more hands-on experience can enjoy nature walks.

The 4 luxury suites named after Africa’s big 5 (lion, leopard, rhino, and buffalo) and the furnishings are all Africa-inspired. Even though the lodge is completely solar-powered the rooms are equipped with air-conditioning, a tea and coffee making station as well as a bar fridge.

Each luxury suite has a large private deck and is positioned to allow for excellent views of the water hole which is frequented by a wide range of animals throughout the day. Each suite also has an en suite bathroom, as well as an open-air shower for those wanting to enjoy a shower under the African sky.

Situated within easy reach of the suites, the main lodge is equipped with an open plan bar and lounge area, fully equipped kitchen, free WiFi, outdoor patios, guest bathroom, and a large dining room. There is a comfortable open-air boma area with a fireplace with views onto the waterhole. The luxurious swimming pool overlooks the dry river bed and a small waterhole on the opposite bank giving game the room they need to feel safe to come and go as they please. The lodge is semi-fenced from larger wildlife to ensure your safety. Board walks lead between the units to ensure you can move freely and safely throughout the camp. Guests have full use of the indoor and outdoor living areas and all facilities within the lodge.

As a part of the greater Kruger National Park, the Klaserie has no fences between the Kruger and surrounding private nature reserves and can therefor offer guests the experience of exploring the area in open game viewers where anything and everything can happen just around the next corner. Should you wish to get off the vehicle and walk we can also provide that opportunity with our highly qualified guiding team. The Klaserie Private Nature Reserve, as well as its neighbour the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve, known for good game viewing and the sense of space and wilderness we will strive to ensure that game viewing and the wilderness experience is always placed first!

Between game drives, guests can relax on their private patio or by the pool while sipping on a refreshing drink and savoring the breathtaking view of the waterhole which is frequently visited by a wide range of animals.
