The spirit of safari comes alive at the historic &Beyond Kirkman’s Kamp. Step back in time into the classical ambiance of this original 1920s homestead and marvel at the spectacular views of the unspoiled landscape that surrounds the Sand River from each of the 12 guest suites. Rolling lawns carve out a niche in a wild and tumbling landscape that host memorable game viewing in one of the most renowned Big Five regions in the world. Spacious sitting, dining and bar areas steeped in the colonial atmosphere of gracious style and luxury contain mementoes of a time long past, while the untamed outside whispers a promise of adventures not to be forgotten.
Delight in early morning and late afternoon game drives, interpretive bush walks, birdwatching and impressive viewing of spotted hyena, various antelope, elephant, white rhino, buffalo and hippo. The Sabi Sand Game Reserve is famed for its leopard sightings and you may well spot one of these elusive cats resting after a successful night hunt. Wildlife is the biggest drawcard for most travellers and the guide and tracker teams are equipped with a wealth of knowledge. Game drives in the Sabi Sand are able to go off road in search of exceptional sightings and your safari may also continue after dark, with a specially filtered spotlight used to illuminate nocturnal wildlife.
Set out in an open 4×4 safari vehicle in the company of a ranger and tracker team, who will attempt to track your favourite animals. The Sabi Sand Game Reserve is well known for its leopard sightings and you may well spot one of these elusive cats resting after a successful night hunt. You will stop for refreshments at a scenic spot during your drive.
andBeyond’s professionally trained guides will ask you about your favourite wildlife and will do their best to ensure that your preferences are met, whether it is tracking a particular species or spending more time enjoying each sighting and getting to know the habits of the animals. They will also tell you about the vegetation of the region and will explain the behaviour of the animals that you come across. In some cases, the guides will be able to identify individual animals and let you know about their history and habits.
