Kapama Private Game Reserve, consists of 4 luxury game lodges spanning over an area of 15 000 hectares of pristine South African bush. The Kapama and Klaserie Rivers respectively flow through the reserve serving as a natural source of water for over 40 different species of mammals including the Big 5 – elephant, lion, leopard, African buffalo and rhinoceros – as well as 350 bird species, thrive in their natural habitat. Visitors get the opportunity to observe these magnificent creatures in the wild with twice-daily guided game drives and nature walks.

Kapama Southern Camp is situated in the newly acquired southern most section of Kapama Private Game Reserve previously known as Hongonyi and offers guests basic luxury accommodation, an affordable safari experience accompanied by warm hospitality and friendly service.

Kapama’s four luxury lodges each have a charm of their own – Buffalo Camp delights with its old-world feel, Southern Camp offers warmth and hospitality, River Lodge is vibrant year-round, and Karula is breathtakingly elegant. Kapama safari lodges offer an authentic South African safari experience. The more adventurous can also choose to spend a night under the stars at our romantic sleep-out platform.

All 15 suites at Southern Camp have full en-suite bathrooms with picture windows to enjoy the surrounding scenery and bird life. Air conditioning, minibars and tea and coffee stations are standard in all suites of this five-star safari accommodation. Private patios offer the opportunity to enjoy relaxing sundowners, while game watching at the same time. The ten 85 m2 Villas have their own private lap pool, inside and outside showers, large minibar, espresso machines and a romantic fireplace open to the bath and bedroom. 3 of the Villas have been designed with families in mind with a second connecting bedroom for the children with its own bath, shower, double vanity and outside patio.

Southern Camp’s attractive lounge and pool areas are ideal places to relax with a good book or to soak up the surrounding scenery and game. The open sided thatched lounge is one of the best areas at Southern Camp –it’s simple yet quite elegant and welcoming with its travertine tiled floors and comfy sofas. Alternatively you can relax and enjoy a cold one on the pool loungers as the friendly barman is on duty all day to entice you with his tantalising cocktails! The food through the day is served buffet style – the evening meals are set with large tables, each headed by a ranger and you are allocated to sit with the ranger that took you on your game drives. The décor is contemporary, understated and inspired by surrounding nature – while the traditional outdoor boma is illuminated by firelight and starry skies enhancing the African atmosphere!

Throughout the day, it’s likely you will see wildlife around the lodge – nyala, antelope and vervet monkeys are frequent visitors, though seeing some of the bigger animals is also not uncommon! Twice-daily game drives are conducted by expert rangers and Shangaan trackers to ensure unforgettable wildlife encounters in the African bush! You can expect to see a diverse range of animal and bird species on the game drives including great sightings of the Big Five. For those birding enthusiasts there are approximately 350 species of birds recorded on the reserve!

Enjoy the splendid vistas over the natural waterhole frequented by animals throughout the day, as you sip your favourite cocktail from the wooden deck around the welcoming rim-flow swimming pool or in the elegantly decorated lounge.
